Eating fat does not make you fat. This drives me crazy. People have this totally misguided notion of how food works. It makes intuitive sense: fat taken into the body becomes fat on the body. But it ain’t so.

I’m not a huge low-carber, and I definitely don’t go for the whacky/extreme stuff like Atkins, but I lost 55 pounds a few years ago (and have kept it off) by reading up on nutrition and fitness and basically following the G.I. (glycemic index) diet. (And also by working out a lot more than I had been.) So take that for what it’s worth: one anecdotal data point. I did a lot more reducing of starches and sugars than I did of fat in my diet.

Further galling about the Arturo Perez Reverte selection is the fact that they have the less exciting books from the Alatriste series. The first book isn’t even available. Certain selections from Nietzche and Sartre are there, but it’s missing some of their big titles.

It’s been a while since the store has been available. I’m galled that the collection hasn’t
seemed to add very many books
at all in that time.
