I voted by mail today.  Full disclosure: I voted for Warren in the primary.

I would have suited up like an astronaut going to the moon to vote.  I would have been fine with it.  But the voting by mail meant no random votes.  I could look up every single person on that ballot and do this mythical “informed voting” thing.

I can see why the GOP doesn’t want anyone to vote by mail.  You’d end up being an informed voter and never accidentally vote for them.

I don’t think I enjoyed it.  I want the ritual of going to the school gym and voting in the little booth and getting an I Voted sticker.  This felt antiseptic.

Also, I’m making a Paul Hollywood Soda Bread.  It smells good and it’ll be done by the time I’m doing writing this blog post.  The bread took maybe 20 minutes to make?  And four ingredients unless you get fancy and do half and half white and wheat flour?  Tops?  And 30 minutes to bake.  If it comes out well, I can see it becoming a staple of Sunday Night Dinner ™ or a fancier Saturday Night Dinner ™.   And I can put all kinds of things into the dough… cheese, potatoes, herbs…

Although I don’t think I dusted the top with flour well enough.  Well, we’ll see how it comes out.

I had ideas to do other things today except I think what I really want to do is lie on the couch and read Gideon the Ninth.  I must get rid of some brain fry, and the only way is to just take a little bit of time.

Light day.  I am refusing to look at the news.  And I heard Fred Willard died.  I’m crushed.  In his name, we should all watch Best in Show tonight.

Here’s a Fred Willard Best in Show quote:

Buck Laughlin I went to one of those obedience places once… it was all going well until they spilled hot candle wax on my private parts.

And, of course, Spinal Tap:

Lt. Hookstratten May I start by saying how thrilled we are to have you here. We are such fans of your music and all of your records. I’m not speaking of yours personally, but the whole genre of the rock and roll.

Stats:

  • 1,474,181 confirmed cases.  But don’t tell Trump, because he doesn’t want testing to affect his stats.
  • 88,971 confirmed dead.  We are going to hit 6 digits by the end of the month for certain, quarter-million total at least.
  • 336,724 recovered
  • 37,970 cases in MD, with 1,936 dead.
  • 1 in 239 people have it in HoCo.

All the numbers with MD are very flat.  We’re not getting worse and we’re not getting better.  We’re just flat.
