“We long ago lost sight of normal, but this was a singularly immoral act. The president used force against American citizens, not to protect property, but to soothe his own insecurities. We will all move on to the next outrage, but this was a true abuse of power and should not be forgotten.”
— Brendan Buck, former top aide to Speaker Paul Ryan (R), quoted by Politico.
Peaceful protestors were tear gassed en masse with no warning for a photo-op last night down the street from the (soon-to-be-ex) office.
I think some important part of the American Republic died last night — but I’m not 100% certain. It’s resilient and we’ve survived some pretty extreme badness in the past. In 1920, we survived a very similar version of today — riots, pandemic, economic carnage. Time is a flat circle and what was before will be again. But then again, in 1920, we ended up with Harding, so what the hell do I know.
What I am certain is that there are now two camps: Trumpies and Americans. And we, Americans, are currently occupied by the Trumpies. The Trumpies thought they did a great job last night. They’re busy patting themselves on the back. The rest of us, not so much.
Overnight they put up this fence in Lafayette Park and made the Marquis de Lafayette a political prisoner of the Trumpies. You know, he said this:
“If the liberties of the American people are ever destroyed, they will fall by the hands of the clergy.”
— Marquis de Lafayette
I guess Trump got his wall after all. (Although people are pointing out that this isn’t a wall, but a chicken coop.)
I thought about Lafayette, all chained up behind Trump’s makeshift fortress wall to keep the riff-raff out after he went and held up a Bible in front of St. John’s Church — after they tear gassed the priests — as his… I dunno… sign that he is strong?
Is he strong?
Is this strength?
Or is he just a scared little boy who wants to surround himself with flashy military toys and make believe strong on TV?
I said on twitter last night that this is the Presidency that Trump truly wants. He wants a boot-to-neck style military dictartorship. He wants a return to segregation. He wants women back in the kitchen to make him some pie. He wants minorities in their place. He wants white men in charge, again, with no one to challenge them. He is his KKK-loving father’s son, the ultimate expression of a more racist time. And he wants to use violence to bully and cower anyone who would ever dare hold him accountable.
As people know me, I only have one religion and it’s the American Experiment. And I can say, we’ve had some pretty damn rough periods in our history. But this one is one of those people will do their PhD thesis on because, for the first time, I’m honestly afraid we’re not going to be allowed a free and fair vote, and I don’t think we’re going to get rid of this guy. Ever.
There’s alot of bullshit floating around out there right now.
Anyway, it’s a hard day, but I’m here to remind everyone that COVID-19 is still circulating like mad. And it has a 6% mortality rate which is no bullshit. We are going to get hellacious spikes in infection rates all over the country. It is going to happen. A bunch of those protestors are going to die.
For good news, the Swords of the Serpentine pre-layout PDF drops today. I hope you all like the game.
I have exercised the stress away so much that my underwear is loose. TMI, I know.

I dunno man. I dunno. Maybe we should all go drink.
“I wish it need not have happened in my time,” said Frodo.
“So do I,” said Gandalf, “and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”
